I want to share with you another great prop that I have been using. This is another prop created by my sister. I hope you remember how much I raved about her plush snowballs and how much fun it was to sing and count with them. I put the snowballs away for the time being but now I am using these cute little goof balls. Same sized soft balls but now have different colors and different emotions stitched on them. These silly little goof balls are great to use for identifying colors and singing about different emotions. I like to piggy back on the song “If you’re happy and you know it” to express different emotions that the balls are expressing. It is even helpful to elaborate about different emotions and ask questions like what kinds of things make you feel happy, sad, angry or scared. It would even be fun to bring a mirror and have each child make their own “sad face”, “happy face”, etc.
I have several recorded songs that express rolling a ball. I recently used one of these songs with some toddlers and preschool students. It was a great way to help the children take turns rolling the ball. “Rolling the ball”. Children love to throw balls so this was also a great way to teach how to roll a ball to a friend. This was definitely an activity that kept each child engaged for quite some time!
The possibilities are endless. Again, I love how these goof balls are soft and when thrown around, no one gets hurt and nothing gets broken. If you had these cute little goof balls, how would you use them? Please share your ideas with me by emailing me. I would love to hear from you!
