One of my favorite songs that I shared with all the children I work with was a song that I created last year. It’s called the “Pinwheel Song”. I wanted to create a song that would help some of my children learn to position their mouth and lips with an “oh” , take a deep breath, and blow. This activity is a great way to practice the positioning of the mouth to create different sounds. Blowing pinwheels can also help a child to relax. One thing I sometimes tell myself when I need to calm down is to breathe. So using pinwheels can be a lot more fun and relaxing then just telling yourself to take a relaxing breath, especially for a child who is stressed out for the moment.
I found some great pinwheels at a local craft store at a great price too!. So I bought several different colors. I found the smaller pinwheels to be easier for my children to spin. But I did add a few novelty pinwheels to my collection because Spiderman and Dora the Explorer are still very popular. A lot of my preschool girls are very much into Disney princesses so I added a princess pinwheel to my collection as well. Since a lot of the pinwheels are different colors I was able to incorporate some color recognition to each session. Now that you have a pinwheel song to share with your child, how can you have fun with it? I would love to hear from you and learn your new pinwheel activities!
