In my new book I share with my readers 7 activities you can use at home with your child to help alleviate stress. Some of the activities describe using different kinds of props such as scarves. Scarves have always been a favorite with some of my clients. Today I want to share with you a new prop that I have been using, homemade snowballs. My sister recently purchased an embroidery machine and she showed me these cute snowman faces that she learned to make. Then she created these soft, baseball sized snowballs with embroidered snowball faces. I started to think of the many different ways I could use these snowballs with my clients. One of the activities involved using the song “Ten in the Bed” in which each snowball rolled over and out of sight until only one was left. This was a great way for my clients to work on academic skills such as counting and subtraction. My clients have had so much fun counting and showing me numbers by holding up their fingers, matching the correct number of snowballs with the correct number of fingers. How fun it is to learn some basic math skills with a song and fun props! And in my book I mention the importance of “engaging in activities with your child”.
